Celebrate the Irish way

O'DUINNS Irish Pub is doing it the family way, keeping as much in-house as they can in the lead-up to St Patrick's Day.

With owner-operator husband and wife team Thomas and Audrey Dunne at the helm, their daughter Meghan behind the bar and son Declan doing them proud in the kitchen, it really is an Irish family affair.

Mr Dunne said this was done by design.

"I made it a family pub like most family pubs in Ireland," he said.

This year will mark the family's ninth St Patrick's Day in the region after setting up shop in 2006.

Mr Dunne said O'Duinns was doing his homeland proud, being the only true Irish pub in the area.

"There's probably one or two maybe in Brisbane and there's a couple that we know of in Sydney, but up as a far as Townsville and even up as far as Cairns, there's no Irish pubs that are actually Irish owned and operated," he said.

Preparations are already under way at O'Duinns for St Patrick's Day this month, with Irish music, Irish dancers and Irish-themed shirts and hats already organised.

This year will see the event celebrated across three days, with music planned for Friday, Sunday and Tuesday.
