Police chopper used in drug raid
A DRUG haul with an estimated $250,000 street value has been uncovered on the Granite Belt, as part of a two-day operation led by Stanthorpe police.
Queensland's newest crime-fighting tool the POLAIR helicopter is on hand to oversee the operation.
Operation 'Mike Colbalt' is being carried out by uniform police in conjunction with members of the Firearms and Cannabis team from Brisbane and the Stock and Rural Crime Investigation Squad.
Senior Sergeant Mark Ireland from Stanthorpe Police said his station had been investigating the properties for a number of months.
"We've been using POLAIR to identify targets from the air and then sending in people on the ground to detain any offenders," he said.
"Two pistols, one with a silencer, were recovered in the Sugarloaf area.
"Around 36 cannabis plants were found on a property at Ellwood Rd, The Summit, with a conservative street value of $250,000."
