Clive tells Abbott to 'commit suicide' at press conference

CLIVE Palmer has told the Prime Minister to "go and commit suicide" in a heated press conference he called to discuss economic issues in Canberra.

Mr Palmer made the unexpected comment after being asked about his position on key government policies including the higher education package.

Mr Palmer has since taken to twitter to apologise, saying he meant to say it was "political suicide to go against the will of the people".

"Today I inadvertently used the term suicide in regard to @TonyAbbottMHR when I meant political suicide. I apologise for any offence caused."

Mr Palmer reiterated his outright opposition to any changes to university funding, despite moves by Education Minister Christopher Pyne to find common ground.
