Dachshunds dash into Proserpine State School fete
BRACE yourself, Proserpine - a new style of spring racing is about to make waves in town.
Proserpine State School is presenting its inaugural Spring Racing Carnival with, you guessed it, dachshunds.
If cute, bumbling sausage dogs weren't enough to have you running your own race just to get there, then stay posted, because there's more.
The carnival is boasting fun for all age groups with carnival rides, stalls, raffles and a bar for when you just need to put your feet up after the long week.
Principal Rob Templeton said the annual fete will be an opportunity to showcase the community as well as welcome spring racing with a unique twist.
"It's a bit of a niche, novelty activity that could involve the community,” Mr Templeton said.
"The whole purpose of the event is to showcase our community and come together to have an enjoyable night.”
Mr Templeton said this year, money raised through the fete will be going towards building a new sensory, playground for the early year students.
"Our students get very excited seeing it all get set up on a Friday afternoon and this year the money raised will be going back into building a playground for our Prep students,” he said.
Members of the community are encouraged to don fascinators and bow ties and come along to the fun, family-friendly race of the year to support the local community and Proserpine State School.
