Mum faces charges after crash that killed son, 9

A MUM who allegedly fell asleep behind the wheel, causing a horrific crash that killed her nine-year-old son in 2013, appeared in Gladstone Magistrates Court this week.

The woman, who lived in Nambour at the time of the crash, faced an array of charges including dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death, driving with a relevant drug present in blood or saliva, wilful damage, serious assault, public nuisance and assaulting or obstructing a police officer.

Olivia Meagan Cullinane was driving a Toyota Landcruiser on the Bruce Hwy near Bororen, in the Gladstone region, on October 8, 2013 when the car crashed.

The nine-year-old boy was pronounced dead at the scene, after being thrown 18m from the car.

The boy's four-year-old brother, found in a nearby tree, was flown to The Royal Children's Hospital in Brisbane in a critical condition, suffering from serious head and spinal injuries.

The remaining three children, all siblings, and Cullinane were transported to Gladstone Hospital from the wreckage.

Cullinane, accompanied by her partner, fronted the court this week seeking an adjournment to arrange time for case conferencing.

She will return to court in March.
