Queensland Disaster hero guilty of fraud

A QUEENSLAND Disaster Heroes award recipient has pleaded guilty to fraud.

Rural firefighter Daniel David McGuire appeared in Ipswich District Court yesterday after he dishonestly obtained $7000 from Black Duck Park Proprietary Limited.

The fraud is believed to have taken place between April 26 and June 13, 2010 in Junction View.

The 57-year-old also pleaded guilty to two counts of unlawfully possessing motor vehicles on July 22 and 23, 2010.

Tragedy struck McGuire in 2011, when his wife, eldest son and only daughter where killed in the flood disaster.

A torrent of water had engulfed the rural fire truck McGuire and his family were trying to escape to safety in.

McGuire and another son Zach, 7, were the only ones to survive. The pair were awarded the Queensland Disaster Heroes award later that year.

McGuire's case has been adjourned to April 21.
