Drivers take on an off-road rumble at NQ Games

PROSERPINE driver Tim Hall has taken an outright win the North Queensland Khanacross Championships and North Queensland Games.

Driving a front wheel drive Nissan Pulsar in the 1600 to 2000cc class, Hall beat off challenges from V8 powered machines and also took the win in the masters class.

Halls's wife, Kym, sharing the same car placed third in the 1600-2000cc class and another local driver Rob Mortimer took third place in the over 200cc class in his V8 Holden Commodore ute, also managing to snatch second in the Big Banger class.

Tim Hall said drivers from Townsville, Mossman, Cairns and Mackay travelled to compete in the accumulative time-based competition.

All times were added at the end of the two-day competition and the driver with the lowest time in their particular class was the winner.

"We add them up as they are going along so people have an idea of how hard they have to push to catch up or to stay in front of the other drivers,” he said.

The Labor Day long weekend is always the first round of the North Queensland Khanacross Championships which timed in perfectly with he North Queensland Games, so it was decided to run the events together, Hall said.

"This is the first time the khanacross has been involved with the North Queensland Games. They approached us and asked if we were interested in in competing as they knew we had a major event on.”

Local junior driver, Evanda Taylor, in an early model all-wheel-drive Subaru Liberty placed third in the junior class behind Heath Barry and Seth Scott.
