SOCCER: Both the under-12 and U13 Taipans soccer teams won their grand finals in tense matches at the weekend, just a week after collecting their respective premierships.

The U12s took an early lead against Country United with convincing plays that resulted in goals despite facing a strong headwind.

In the second half, United pegged back a goal but the Taipans closed it out with a goal, clinching the grand final 3-1.

The U13 match was nail-bitingly tense, with penalty goals, walls and exhilarating play displayed by both teams.

Proserpine gave away two penalties in the first half, resulting in goals and at half-time the scoreboard read two-all.

Taipans scored in the second half, followed by an intense 20-minute push from the Moranbah Hawks, where Oscar Hill's efforts in goal gave the Taipans victory.

When both Taipans teams were presented with two medals, one for the premiership win and the other for the grand final win, players' pre-game nerves were replaced by huge smiles.

Club president Peter Eve said it was a great privilege to be part of a club that had really come together in the past couple of years.

"The two coaches, Rickey and Bora, have worked really hard with their teams and the hard work displayed by the players has paid off, and we had great spectator turnout on the day,” he said.

"Hopefully the younger kids will be inspired by their success and we look forward to another great year of football next season.”
