LNP still firm favourite to win second term

DESPITE recent opinion polls, the LNP is still the hot favourite to win the Queensland election, according to respected ABC election analyst Antony Green.

Some polls have suggested the ALP opposition led by Annastacia Palaszczuk is within striking distance of a remarkable comeback.

But Mr Green said it would be tough for Labor to regain all its lost ground, after the LNP gained more than 40 seats at the last election.

"For Labor to take all of those seats back in one hit would be an enormous swing, a complete upset," Mr Green told the ABC.

"You'd have to say even with some deteriorating polls the Government would be favoured to win."

Clive Palmer, who lost his only two sitting MPs in Queensland, said the Palmer United Party would stand across the state.

It's best prospect is party leader John Bjelke-Petersen, the son of Sir Joh Bjelke-Petersen.

Mr Bjelke-Petersen was endorsed to stand in the seat of Callide earlier this year.

He will take on sitting member, and Deputy Premier, Jeff Seeney.

Mr Palmer told the ABC said the snap election was in response to Mr Newman's deteriorating popularity as Premier.

It is expected to catch many candidates off guard.

Katter's Australia Party admits it is not yet ready for the Queensland election.

The party has three seats in the Queensland Parliament.
