A FORMER AFL footballer turned property developer who is accused of enlisting Clive Palmer's spin doctor in an elaborate scheme to kidnap a bank executive has been released on bail

Tony Smith, 58, handed himself in to authorities on Tuesday after a warrant was issued for his arrest last month.

Smith appeared briefly in Brisbane Magistrates Court charged with one count each of retaliation against a witness, attempting to pervert the course of justice and attempted fraud.

ABC Online reported he was granted bail on a $250,000 bond and would be allowed to travel back to Bali, where he works, until his next court appearance later this month.

Clive Palmer's media advisor Andrew Crook and former senior Queensland detective Mick Featherstone were charged last month in connection with the same incident after raids in Brisbane and on the Gold Coast.
