New home for local news and information
THE online part of our business is growing exponentially, and we are making some changes to capitalise on that.
From Wednesday, our whitsundaycoastguardian.com.au website will merge with the nearby whitsundaytimes.com.au.
If you keep using the Guardian URL, you'll be redirected to The Times, so it should not disrupt your journey.
It may seem counter-intuitive to go to one site when we are growing, but the simple fact is it takes a lot of time to maintain two sites.
In a rapidly growing and important region, having one site that covers in-depth from Bowen to Proserpine, west to Collinsville and, of course, Airlie Beach, makes a lot of sense.
By having one site, not two, we will be able to concentrate more on writing stories, not building them for online multiple times and curating two sites that share a lot of the same copy.
There are no changes to your print edition and there are no staffing changes. This is about delivering more of what you are consuming and being smart about it.
All your local news and regular sections you love to read will be on whitsundaytimes.com.au, plus a whole lot more.
The Times site is on a readership surge. Two months ago we were averaging just over 41,000 page views a week. Now we are close to 57,000.
Let's have one destination to celebrate all that we are great at.
Editor of the Whitsunday Coast Guardian and its sister publications, Whitsunday Times and Bowen Independent, Gregor Mactaggart, says local news remains at the heart of what we do at The Guardian, but in this rapidly expanding coastal region there is reader demand for news and information from the wider community.
"Proserpine residents work, play sport, or spend time relaxing and enjoying life throughout this fantastic region, so it makes perfect sense that we amalgamate our websites to make it faster and easier for our online audience to access all the information they need from the one website,” he said.
While local and regional news will be given prominence, whitsundaytimes.com.au will also bring you the best state, national and international stories from around our network.
Go to whitsundaytimes.com.au next Wednesday and check out all that we have to offer.
