OptiMINDS clean up at Mackay regionals

THREE teams from St Catherine's Catholic College have been selected to represent the region to compete in the OptiMINDS state and Australian finals in October.

The OptiMINDS challenge requires teams to solve demanding problems from language literature and science engineering to social sciences.

On August 26, five teams from St Cath's made their way to regional finals in Mackay, where they competed against 74 teams from across the region representing 24 schools.

Of the five teams from St Cath's, three won their divisions, earning them a spot in the finals, and the remaining two received honours.

The team who won the Science Engineering Division 1 Challenge included Joshua Jarvis, Sari Goodall, Ethan Burtron, Kai Savy, Alice Pini and Mia Reimer.

The Language Literature Division 3 winners were Loujana van Dalen, Kaitlin Farran, Krista McGrady and Nathaniel Savy.

The Social Science Division 3 winning team consisted of Nicholas Sainsbury, Breeanna Purvis, Camryn Griffith, Eden Humphrey and Sophie Farran.

Fifteen students from Years 6-12 will be travelling to the University of Queensland in Brisbane on October 13-14 to participate in the state and Australian finals following their regional success.

The St Cath's OptiMINDS team is looking for sponsorship and donations from the local community to get to the state finals.
