UPDATE:  Police have identified the man located deceased this morning after he went missing whilst trying to cross a flooded river in Menzies, near Mt Isa.

Around 8am, following a drop in the water level, an emergency services crew located the body of a 60-year-old Mount Isa man in the Leichardt River, west of the Alma Street crossing.

His death is considered non-suspicious.

A report will be prepared for the Coroner.

EALIER: POLICE have found a body after search and rescue crews began combing the Leichardt River in Menzies, near Mt Isa, for a man who disappeared while trying to cross a flooded waterway.

At 8am, as waters receded, a Swift Water Rescue crew discovered a male body.

Noone has been reported missing to police.

Mt Isa District Officer Superintendent Trevor Kidd asked that anyone in the region who is missing a friend or loved one to make contact.

"That goes for anyone who might know of someone who was travelling through the area for any reason.

"We believe the man is between 50 and 70 years old, Caucasian in appearance with grey hair and moustache and wearing a white t-shirt, cargo shorts and thongs."

In another incident, emergency crews reacted to reports of a four wheel drive in flood waters between Mt Isa and Lake Moondarra.

The driver was not in the car when it was inundated by water.

It's understood he left the 4WD after it became bogged, in the hope of recovering it today.
