Prossie to miss out on Legends of League

SCOTT Prince, Michael Crocker, and Petero Civoniceva are among the big names that headline this May's Legends of League match set to be played in Bowen for the second consecutive year.

A debate between councillors in the past fortnight followed revelations that event organisers would rather the game be played in Bowen again, rather than Proserpine as planned originally.

Proserpine had been set to host the event last year but was forced to concede after Cyclone Debbie ravaged the town's facilities and sponsorship capabilities.

Manager of the Whitsunday Brahmans, the region's Proserpine-based senior league team, Bryce Fraser expressed his disappointment on the Prossie community and facilities missing out.

"Hopefully Proserpine will be extended the same opportunity to host for two years in 2019.”

Hosted once again by the Bowen Seagulls, the event will take place across five days that will include activities in Bowen, Proserpine, Airlie Beach and Collinsville.

Bowen Seagulls secretary Monica Pickett said she hoped the event returning for a second year would boost the game in Bowen.

From May 2, the legends will kick off proceedings with a series of talks in community schools where they will touch on anti-bullying, social media, suicide, while also coaching kids on how to achieve their goals.

This will be followed by a bowls day on the Friday, May 4, in Airlie Beach at Mantra Club Croc, before the legends head to Bowen on Saturday.
