Serena Williams hoping to claw out some Hopman Cup victories

World No.1 Serena Williams was all cute and cuddly with the locals in Perth on the eve of the Hopman Cup, but it will be strictly business when the USA launches its campaign against Italy today.

With the US drawn against Canada, Italy and the Czech Republic in Group A, Serena will meet Eugenie Bouchard, Flavia Pennetta and Lucie Safarova in round robin matches, a perfect lead-up for the coming Australian Open.

"The women's field is excellent here," she said. "I'm looking forward to my matches and more than anything it's a great time to get matchplay."

The 33-year-old said acclimatising to the weather in Perth - the temperature is forecast to hit 41C today - would be a priority as she targets a 19th Grand Slam title at Melbourne Park.
