Six-year-old boy lived in home with meth lab

METHAMPHETAMINE cook Jason Roberts is a serial offender in the Gladstone drug scene and that history was reflected in the jail sentence handed down to him on Thursday in Gladstone District Court.

The 40-year-old was sentenced to 30 months imprisonment, eligible for parole on Christmas Eve.

Roberts was implicated in a makeshift clandestine laboratory discovered in Gladstone in 2014, while he was on parole for prior drug charges.

The house where the lab was located was not his residence.

Rather, he had agreed to supply $300 of the drug in exchange for rent.

The Gladstone home was also the residence of a six-year-old boy during the time of the lab's operation.

Roberts' usual address was the site of a fatal fire at Barney Point in December.

The blaze destroyed his family's possessions while he was in custody.

Judge Michael Burnett told the defendant he plainly had an issue with drugs and rehabilitation was "a hopeful but unlikely outcome".

"You need to turn your mind to living your life as a contributing member of society," he told Roberts.

"It is important a message is sent to the community that this type of offending attracts actual jail sentences."
