Street party has audience
PROSERPINE it's time to get loud and show your support as the Tour de Cure rolls through town.
On Saturday, April 28, at 10am 160 riders, TV personalities and community members will participate and ride for a reason.
Kids and adults should dress to impress and polish their spokes as broadcasters follow the group riding through town on their way to Peter Faust Dam.
This year's ride will mark local riders Shona Russell and Janelle Eastwood's (Woody) fourth ride in the event. They're over the moon that it's rolling across their home bitumen.
"We've got permission to block the street off and we want people to have a party and show their support,” Ms Russell said.
Tour de Cure 2018 will leave from Mackay on Friday, April 27, before stopping in Bloomsbury, Proserpine, Airlie Beach and Cairns.
The dynamic cycling duo will present the Proserpine Hospital with a $10000 cheque, to aid in a cancer-related project.
Organisers said they'd love to see local businesses placing bikes in shop windows as displays, school kids with signs, and the crowd decorated head to toe in cycling attire.
Secretary Karen Vloedmans said "we encourage everyone to turn up on the day and show support for this great cause”.
On Sunday, April 29, from 6am to 9am Channel Seven's Sunrise will be broadcasting from the Port of Airlie Marina with 'Woody' and Ms Russell.
