'Super sinkhole' on major road causing peak hour chaos

A MAJOR Brisbane thoroughfare has been shut down after a "super sinkhole" appeared after a water main burst early this morning.

City inbound lanes on Lytton Road at Murarrie have been closed between the Gateway Motorway and Creek Road.
 

The main burst just after 3am "causing significant damage to a large area of the roadway.

Police are asking drivers to avoid the area, or seek an alternate route as crews work to urgently repair the road.

The work is expected to take several hours, according to police.
